Cutin Extraction Process

How The Cutin Is Extracted

The process consists in the separation of peels by flotation, in the heat treatment of peels in alkaline solution, in the separation by means of centrifugation of liquid solution were the cutin is precipitated by acidification and separated by centrifugation.

Floatation

Acidification

Cutin has been thus depolymerized to obtain the bio-resin, that is the main component (50-70%) of the new lacquer, cutin will be homopolymerized. Extracted cutin has no chemical or microbiological contamination, even though it comes from waste. Heavy metals are lower than 10 ppb, there are no pesticides residues and there is no microbiological charge.

The oligomerized cutin, which is the basis of the new bioresin, is obtained with a production process whose variables have been studied and fine-tuned: time and temperature of the heat treatment, concentration of the alkaline solution, pH of precipitation.

Performances In Cutin Extraction

The evaluation of the production capacity and constancy of the process has been carried out using specific laboratory tests for each phase. To minimize the environmental impact of the process, resources and energy consumption have been optimized, including through the recirculation of solutions and the reduction of temperatures and treatment times.

Furthermore, both solid and liquid wastes generated by the process, were used directly to produce biogas, in this way no waste was produced.
